I've been here a couple times now and it's a must for vegans and vegetarians. The vegan broths are so flavorful and rich and the udon is perfectly cooked. The line moved quickly and there is always plenty of seating. Love it here!

I saw Marugame in a video about Japan and realized we have them here in Sawtelle so thought I'd give it a try. I got the nikutama broth udon. For addons I got shrimp tempura and potato croquette. Overall the udon was pretty good albeit nothing too crazy. The broth was good and the tempura was good. It wasn't hard to find a seat, but the whole place was full of what I can only describe as college students, I'm guessing UCLA. It wasn't anything bad just funny to see the whole place full of kids. Anyway Marugame was pretty standard and good, affordable, and quick. I'd probably give 3 stars just for the food quality but since its cheap I bumped it up 1.

This place always hits the udon is always so delicious. It is definitely comparable to the location in Waikiki. I also loved the fried tamago as well it was crispy and not soggy at all. The tempura sauce that you could get was also not too salty. There is a lot of seating indoors but could be harder if it is a busy time and there are a lot of people. They also accept Bruincard from UCLA!

One of my favorite places to visit in LA! Second time I've been to the city and came to eat here both times. The udon is made fresh and hot in front of you and then you can choose from a large selection of tempura. The curry udon is my favorite as it's so flavorful and rich. It's in a nice lively area at night with many people walking around to eat and shop.

Last night, I dined at Marugame Udon and had a satisfying experience. I ordered the tonkatsu pork broth udon, accompanied by bean sprouts, egg potato, croquette, and chicken katsu on the side. I also tried the yuzu lemonade drink. While it was good, it was a bit too sweet for my taste. I would have preferred it to be a little more tart, so I probably won't order it again. Despite that, my udon was delicious, as always. I keep coming back because the employees are nice, the service is fast, and the food is both cheap and delicious. This place is one of my favorite spots for solo dining or bringing friends who enjoy noodle soup. I come here often and remain a big fan.

First, Id like to start off with the service more than anything. SO SOOO INCREDIBLE. They were welcoming from the beginning and the atmosphere is already so sweet, even though my group had over 10 people! I had a mistake on my order and brought it back to them, and I made sure to be apologetic about it myself, but they refused to let me keep it and insisted they kindly make me a new bowl. I truly appreciated it and wanna give my biggest thank you! Along with that, one of the women working kept giving us the best photo angles for our group pics and happily volunteered to take them for us! The udon itself is fresh and in general really yummy! It's not the most authentic experience you're gonna get, but it certainly hits the craving. The experience itself, sorta salad bar style, is also supper unique with all the add-ons. Plus, the overall ambiance is just PERFECT to vibe and hangout after a long day of school (super close to both UCLA and USC). Thanks guys for the wonderful experience!

I am kicking myself for not coming here sooner! Marugame Udon offers 2 vegan options. I have tried both and prefer the Vegan Miso Udon with soy, corn and green onions. The noodles are made fresh in house and the broth is literally the best I've ever had. They have self-serve tempura. My favorite was the Japanese sweet potato tempura although I also tried the zucchini. I highly recommend you come here before the dinner rush, as a line forms outside the door and they don't accept reservations. They have plenty of indoor seating, both at booths and standalone tables. They also have limited seating outside so you can people watch. Staff is really friendly and helpful. They offer free water and self-serve to-go containers. Remember to bus your own tray on your way out!

Had to get a fix of udon and none other than marugame. Parking was hard to find but I usually have my secret parking spot ( can't tell ya or else it won't be a secret!). I ordered the tonkatsu and potato croquette with fried chicken. I asked for extra green onions. Most of it is self service on the water and utensils. Only thing missing was the section to get extra green onions but I figure due to sanitary reasons it was removed. The place is quite spacious and there's plenty of seat for people to eat at. The decor is pretty much simple Japanese wooden bench. Care to eat a bowl of Tonkatsu udon with me?

It's raining and our team was waiting for traffic to die down before we headed back to OC. The cafeteria style udon soup concept that Marugame Udon has was perfect for what the four of us were looking for in a dinner. There were meter street parking in the area or a parking structure. Cafeteria style made it easy for the team to order and grab small add-on items as they desired. The three of them ordered a large Nikutama Udon ($13.95), a large Kitsune Udon ($10.35) with an added Egg ($2.25), a regular Miso Udon with Sweet Beef ($11.95) with sides of Chicken Katsu ($4.75), 2 Tamagoyaki Tempura ($2.25/each), 2 Potato Croquette ($2.25/each), 2 Tofu Tempura ($1.95), 2 Zucchini Tempura ($1.95), 2 Shrimp Tempura ($2.25/each), 1 Squid Tempura ($2.25), 2 Gyoza ($4.50/5piece) and a Gekikara FireBall ($0.75). Starving kids! To be fair I was starving too. I had a large Nikutama Udon ($13.95) with Bokchoy ($1.95), a Shrimp Tempura ($2.25), Potato Croquette ($2.25) and a Sweet Potato Tempura ($1.95). Utensils and water were all self-served. The tempura dipping sauce was also self-served but their dispenser was out. I had notified staff and they handed me cold refrigerated small containers and it did not taste as satisfying as the warm sauce. What a same. The noodle itself was a nice warm bowl of soup. The beef was a little fatty and on the sweet side. I loved that soft poached egg. What was meant to be a nice no frills meal added up quickly. That tempura line is a trap if you aren't careful. I had been to other locations so I knew how much I can each but some of my team members definitely grabbed more than they could comfortably eat. I would consider coming back, but Sawtelle has so many good options I would have to explore all the other spots before I come back to this specific location.
